Feature Film Production

Here is how this works in practice. Our team gives feature films the highest standard of production support, sustained across an extended shooting schedule. We assemble crews from a skilled Belgrade base, covering each department, camera, lighting, grip, art, costume, sound, construction, with department heads who hold quality from prep through to wrap. Our line producers handle budget work, scheduling and day-to-day operations, source gear from local rental houses stocking ARRI. RED and Sony packages, and structure qualifying spend toward the Film in Serbia cash rebates.

Here is the short of it. This returns 25 to 30 per cent of eligible Serbian costs, the higher rate for larger-budget shoots. We secure locations and permits, set up controlled stage builds at the today's PFI Studios tricky near Simanovci, and manage the logistics of moving cast, crew and kit between units. For official co-productions we manage treaty compliance and Serbian partner planning. We connect shoots with local post houses for editing, grading, VFX and sound. Whether the project is an intimate independent feature or a major studio production needing 150-plus crew, we give the infrastructure the format demands.

Here is the breakdown. Serbia has built a competitive, fast-growing film-services industry over the past decade, and its cinematic credibility runs deep: Serbian and Yugoslav cinema is worldwide celebrated, with Emir Kusturica a two-time Palme d'Or winner for 'When Father Was Away on Business' and 'Underground', and Film Center Serbia supports the domestic industry. Global features such as Ralph Fiennes's 'Coriolanus' have shot in Belgrade. The country has hosted a growing roster of global shoots.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. The locations are top and different: Belgrade at the confluence of the Sava and Danube, with the Kalemegdan fortress and the modernist sweep of New Belgrade. The Djerdap, or Iron Gates, gorge. The mountains of Tara. Zlatibor and Kopaonik. And the medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries, including UNESCO-listed Studenica. Serbia is an EU candidate country but not an EU member and not in the Schengen Area, so we advise on entry for global cast and crew. The currency is the Serbian dinar and standard VAT is 20 per cent.
